These are unedited photographs I took of disposable camera photo prints (they were given to me by my mom for one of my birthdays in my late twenties). The original photographers are unknown, though assumed to be members of my family. Each photo print is documented to where the flash of my camera reflects off of the glossy surface of the print, covering the face of me when I was a child. While I urge the viewer to bring their own interpretations to the symbolism, I will speak to what comes up for me: anonymity created by covering the face indicates a lack of personal connection to the subject, or a lack of memory from that time period likely due to dissociation impeding memory formation, or a lack of being truly seen. This is an ongoing series that will grow larger as I acquire more childhood photographs that I have no memory of. Several of these images have been used as source material for some of my paintings and original prints, though I believe they are works in their own right.
